Overview

Creech is the Air Force's Reaper base. The 432nd Wing and its expeditionary twin fly MQ-9 combat and reconnaissance sorties around the globe from ground control stations at Indian Springs, Nevada, with the 432nd and 732nd Operations Groups, the 556th Test and Evaluation Squadron, the RAF's 39 Squadron and the Joint UAS Center of Excellence all on the same 2,300 acres. About 4,000 people work here between active duty, Guard, Reserve, civilians and contractors, and because the mission runs 24/7 there is always a shift arriving or leaving. The Thunderbirds also use Creech as their aerial training site, so you may get an air show out your window on a Tuesday.

The place itself is a desert airstrip at 3,100 feet, 45 miles up US-95 from Las Vegas. Indian Springs is a town of about 1,100 with a gas station and not much else; there is no lodging, no commissary and no family housing at Creech, so the entire workforce commutes from the Vegas valley. Summers run from the mid-90s to the mid-110s with 28 percent average humidity, winters are mild, and the drive north on US-95 is straight, fast and empty. For a TDY traveler the whole question is where in Las Vegas you sleep and how long that makes your morning drive.

Weather

Creech sits at about 3,100 feet in the Mojave, a touch cooler than the Vegas valley but still brutal in summer: MilitaryINSTALLATIONS lists summer highs from the mid-90s to the mid-110s and winter days from the mid-30s to the upper 60s, with about 28 percent average humidity. Rain totals only a few inches a year, but the late-June-to-September monsoon brings flash flooding and dust storms, and wind is a year-round feature on the open highway.

Best months

October through April

Tough months

June through September — triple-digit heat, monsoon flash floods across US-95 washes, and dust storms that shut visibility down to nothing

Getting there

  • Fly into Harry Reid International (LAS). Creech is about 60 miles from the terminal: I-215 West to I-15 North (or straight up the 215 Beltway) to US-95 North, then 30-plus miles of open desert to the Indian Springs exit and the main gate. Rent a car — there is no transit, no rideshare coverage at the base, and no taxi that wants to drive back empty. The base's FedVan commuter shuttle runs from Las Vegas park-and-ride lots and Nellis for assigned personnel; the 432nd MSG logistics office at 702-404-1731 has current routes.
  • Creech has a single Main (East) Gate on US-95 just east of Indian Springs, open 24/7 for ID card holders. A separate commercial/visitor lane sits off the same approach. Confirm any changes on creech.af.mil or the base Facebook page before an early-morning first arrival.
  • The Welcome and Visitors Center is at 1st Street, Building 3, just inside the gate. Directories list weekday hours of roughly 0630-1700 and two different phone numbers (702-404-0321 and 702-404-3694), so call ahead to confirm. Visitors need a sponsor with a CAC and a government photo ID for a background check; passes run up to 72 hours for general visitors.
  • Traffic is not the problem — the road is. US-95 between the 215 and Indian Springs has no fuel and no services, wild burros wander onto the pavement at dusk and after dark, and the base and Nevada Highway Patrol warn drivers never to pick up hitchhikers because two state prisons sit right at Indian Springs. Shift changes create a short rush at the gate; otherwise it is the emptiest commute in the Air Force.

TDY lodging

On base

There is no Air Force Inn, TLF or dorm lodging at Creech.

Front desk
24/7
Check-in / out
1500 / 1100
Pets
Limited pet-friendly units
TLF (families)
Available
  • There is no Air Force Inn, TLF or dorm lodging at Creech.
  • The designated facility is the Nellis Inn (Air Force Inns), 5941 Fitzgerald Blvd., Bldg. 556, Nellis AFB, NV 89191, 702-652-2711, front desk 24/7, check-in 1500 and check-out 1100; email 99fss.lodging@us.af.mil for pet rooms (only about 10) and family questions.
  • Nellis is roughly 50 miles and an hour from Creech via I-15 and US-95, so even if you get a room you are committing to a two-hour round trip every day or a seat on the base shuttle.
  • If the Nellis Inn is full, get your non-availability number and book commercially in Las Vegas.

Off-base per diem

  • Confirm the current lodging allowance for your duty location and travel dates with the official rate lookup and your travel office.
  • No current rate is quoted here.
  • Alaska and Hawaii use DoD OCONUS rates.
  • A published ceiling is not proof of reimbursement eligibility.

The crashpad option

Silver State House is our Base Crashpads home for Creech: 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms in Las Vegas, about 45 minutes from the main gate up US-95. Every room has its own bath, the whole house is furnished with a full kitchen and fast Wi-Fi, and it is priced inside the $126 Las Vegas rate with DTS-ready receipts. It works just as well for Nellis TDYs and Red Flag season, so tell us your dates early.

Housing & BAH

Housing

  • Creech has no family housing.
  • PCS families use Nellis Family Housing, run by Hunt Military Communities: 1,180 single-family homes in five neighborhoods on Nellis AFB, leasing office at 4601 Richard Kisling Dr., Las Vegas, NV 89115, 725-527-3200, open 0800-1700 — but that puts you 45 to 50 miles from Creech.
  • Most Creech families rent or buy in northwest Las Vegas instead.
  • MilitaryINSTALLATIONS' February 2026 snapshot puts a single person's monthly costs at about $1,700-$2,985 and median home prices around $440,000-$485,000; the base lists ZIP codes 89130, 89131, 89143, 89166, 89084 and 89085 as the popular ones.

BAH 2026

  • Creech uses the Nellis AFB / Las Vegas MHA (NV212).
  • Published 2026 tables show approximately $1,737 without and $2,070 with dependents for an E-5, and $2,151 without and $2,382 with dependents for an O-3.
  • Confirm on the DTMO BAH calculator.
NeighborhoodCommute

Centennial Hills

The default Creech neighborhood: established 2000s subdivisions on the far northwest side with Costco, Centennial Center shopping and a hospital, solid CCSD schools, and the 215-to-US-95 on-ramp minutes away.

Commute: ~35 min

Skye Canyon / Providence

Newer master-planned communities right at the US-95 and 215 interchange with parks, a rec center and lots of new-build rentals; it is the closest 'real' neighborhood to Creech and full of 432nd families.

Commute: ~30-35 min

Summerlin

Pricier, polished master-planned living along the Red Rock foothills with the best-regarded schools and trails, but you are trading 10 more minutes of Beltway for it.

Commute: ~45 min

Aliante / North Las Vegas

The compromise for dual-base households: affordable newer homes near the 215 with a reasonable shot at both Creech up US-95 and Nellis down I-15.

Commute: ~40 min

Indian Springs

The tiny town outside the gate, about 1,100 people with a K-12 school, a gas station and two prisons; a handful of Airmen rent here for the five-minute commute, but there are no services and no hotels.

Commute: ~5 min
05

Schools & childcare

  • No on-base schools at Creech and no DoDEA schools anywhere in the Las Vegas valley; Nellis Family Housing children and everyone else attend Clark County School District (CCSD), the fifth-largest district in the country with roughly 316,000 students and 357 schools. Indian Springs has a small CCSD K-12 campus for families living next to the gate.
  • Most Creech families zone into northwest CCSD schools around Centennial Hills, Skye Canyon and Summerlin. Kenneth Divich Elementary near Nellis is a designated Purple Star school; CCSD runs a large magnet and career-tech program that takes inter-district applications, which the School Liaison can walk you through.
  • The Nellis and Creech School Liaison Program is at 702-652-1406 for enrollment, records transfer, magnet applications and EFMP education coordination.
  • Creech has its own Child Development Center on base; Nellis has CDCs and school-age care too. Register on MilitaryChildCare.com as soon as you have orders — Las Vegas wait lists are long.
06

Healthcare

  • The Creech Medical Clinic is a small aid station under the 99th Medical Group at Nellis: primary care plus limited dental, ancillary and bioenvironmental support, weekdays only (listed as 0730-1600) with flyer sick call in the first hour. Appointments book through the Nellis line at 702-653-2273 (653-CARE) or the MHS GENESIS patient portal; there is no emergency room and no pharmacy to speak of.
  • Emergencies go to the Mike O'Callaghan Military Medical Center on Nellis AFB, which runs a 24/7 ER about an hour away, or to the nearest civilian ER in northwest Las Vegas — Centennial Hills Hospital is the closest to the US-95 corridor.
  • Nevada is in the TRICARE West Region, administered by TriWest Healthcare Alliance since January 2025.
07

On base

Commissary
  • None at Creech — the nearest is on Nellis AFB, about 50 miles away.
  • Most people shop Costco and Smith's in Centennial Hills instead.
Exchange

A small Base Exchange and shoppette on Creech for basics and uniform items; the full BX is at Nellis.

Fitness

Two gyms: the Northside Sports & Fitness Center (Viper Rd., Bldg. 1204, 702-404-3301) and the South Side Fitness Center (3rd St., Bldg. 65, 702-404-0550).

Dining
  • The Guardian Dining Facility (recently listed by 99 FSS as Hunter's Dining Facility) is essentially the only food on base, with a 24/7 grab-and-go for shift workers.
  • Pack lunch — Indian Springs has almost nothing.
MWR

Creech runs a Military & Family Readiness Center, a veterinary clinic, outdoor rec gear and a nine-hole golf layout; the big MWR programs, ITT tickets and Outdoor Rec rentals live at Nellis.

Commuter shuttle

Free FedVan shuttles run between Las Vegas park-and-ride lots (including one on US-95 just north of the 215) and Creech under the Mass Transportation Benefit Program; call 432nd MSG Logistics at 702-404-1731.

Mount Charleston and Lee Canyon

The Spring Mountains rise right beside your commute — the Lee Canyon (SR-156) and Kyle Canyon (SR-157) turnoffs are on US-95 between Vegas and Creech. Lee Canyon has Nevada's ski area in winter and lift-served mountain biking in summer, and Mount Charleston runs 20 to 30 degrees cooler than the valley in July.

The Strip and Fremont Street

You are 45 minutes from the Strip, so shows, Sphere and the big-name restaurants are a real weeknight option. Fremont Street downtown is cheaper and closer to the northwest side; Nevada residents and military IDs unlock plenty of discounted tickets.

Insider tips

  1. 01Fill your tank before you leave the 215. There is no gas, no food and no cell-signal guarantee on US-95 between the Beltway and Indian Springs.
  2. 02Wild burros stand in the road on US-95 at dusk and after dark; slow down and scan the shoulders. A burro strike at 75 mph totals a car.
  3. 03Do not pick up hitchhikers near Indian Springs — High Desert State Prison and Southern Desert Correctional Center sit right at the base exit, and the base briefs this on day one.
  4. 04Book the Nellis Inn (702-652-2711) or your crashpad as soon as orders drop. If you take the Nellis Inn, understand you are signing up for a 100-mile daily round trip or the FedVan shuttle.
  5. 05The Las Vegas lodging rate jumps to $159 for January through March convention season and drops back to $126 in April; if your TDY straddles the change, the rate follows the date on each receipt.
  6. 06Summer monsoon cells flood the washes that cross US-95 in minutes. If water is over the road, turn around; the base will push closures on Facebook and X (@creech_afb).
  7. 07Get on the Creech CDC and MilitaryChildCare.com list before you arrive, and register with the Nellis School Liaison (702-652-1406) — CCSD enrollment moves faster with records in hand.
  8. 08Pack sunscreen, a wide-brim hat, lip balm and a real water bottle. Twenty-eight percent humidity and 3,100 feet of elevation dehydrate you before you feel it, especially on a 12-hour ops shift.

FAQ

Can I stay on base at Creech and how does reimbursement work?
No — Creech has no lodging. TDY travelers call the Nellis Inn first (702-652-2711); if it has a room you stay at Nellis and commute. If it is full you receive a non-availability number and can lodge commercially at the FY2026 Las Vegas rate of $126 lodging ($159 in January-March) plus $86 M&IE. A Base Crashpads house is priced inside that rate.
Which gate do I use and what do I need to get on base?
There is one Main (East) Gate on US-95 at Indian Springs, open 24/7 for CAC and DoD ID holders. Visitors and contractors without a DoD ID go to the Welcome and Visitors Center at 1st Street, Building 3 with a sponsor and a government photo ID; call ahead because listed hours and phone numbers vary between directories.
Is there a hospital at Creech?
No. The Creech Medical Clinic handles weekday primary care and flyer sick call only. Emergencies go to the Mike O'Callaghan Military Medical Center ER on Nellis AFB or a civilian ER in Las Vegas; Centennial Hills Hospital is the closest one to the US-95 corridor.
Where do Creech families actually live?
Almost all in northwest Las Vegas — Centennial Hills, Skye Canyon, Providence and Summerlin — for a 30-to-45-minute run up US-95. Nellis Family Housing (Hunt, 725-527-3200) is an option but sits 45 to 50 miles from Creech. BAH is the Las Vegas MHA (NV212); confirm current rates on the DTMO calculator.
