Military pay calculator

Monthly basic pay for every grade and years-of-service step — add BAS and your station's BAH for the full picture.

Reading the pay chart

Find your grade in the left column and your years-of-service step across the top. The highlighted cell is your monthly basic pay before taxes. Most members also draw BAH and BAS, which are not taxed — for a typical E-5 or O-3 those allowances are a third or more of monthly cash.

Pay on TDY

Basic pay, BAH and BAS all continue while you're on temporary duty. Per diem is paid in addition to cover lodging and meals at the TDY location — see the per diem guide for how reimbursement works and why a crashpad at or below the lodging rate is effectively free.

Questions

Base pay lookup FAQ

What is the 2026 military pay raise?
Basic pay rose 3.8% on 1 January 2026 for all grades, following the 4.5% across-the-board raise and the additional targeted junior-enlisted raise in 2025.
What's the difference between basic pay and total compensation?
Basic pay is the taxable salary in the pay chart. On top of it most members receive BAH (housing) and BAS (food), both tax-free, and may receive special pays such as aviation incentive pay or hazardous duty pay. This calculator adds BAS and BAH so you can see the cash total.
How do years of service work on the pay chart?
Columns step up at over 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 10 years and so on. Your pay date (PEBD) sets where you fall — you move to the next column the day you cross the threshold, not on your anniversary of promotion.
Why do O-1E, O-2E and O-3E get paid more?
Officers with more than four years of prior enlisted or warrant service are paid on the 'E' rows, which are higher than the standard O-1 to O-3 rates at the same years of service.
