Lodging
The IHG Army Hotel, a Holiday Inn-branded property at 1744 Victory Avenue, is the designated temporary lodging facility for Fort Bliss.
Housekeeping at the TLF includes daily light service with a full clean roughly once a week. The hotel accepts pets under a detailed policy, so check current pet terms directly with the front desk before booking.

Housing & nearby communities
On-post housing at Fort Bliss is privatized and run as Fort Bliss Family Homes, a gated community offering two-, three- and four-bedroom rental homes to active-duty families, with some units also available to retirees, DOW civilians and the general public. The community advertises walkable streets, pools, playgrounds and sport courts alongside easy access to installation facilities.
Because housing is privatized, soldiers considering off-post options in the El Paso market can also contact the Housing Services Office at Building 515B Pershing Road for local housing information.

What to look for in a furnished home
A home that fits your routine
Build your shortlist around the life you will actually lead during this assignment. A quiet bedroom, a table large enough for studying, reliable internet and a usable kitchen often matter more over several months than a long amenities list. Ask to see the workspace and cooking equipment in the listing photos. If two travelers share a home, check the number of private bedrooms, bathroom arrangements and parking spaces before comparing the price. A second bed in a living room is a different arrangement from a second bedroom.
Compare the full arrangement
Look at the complete stay, including the first and last partial months. Request a written breakdown of rent, utilities, parking, pet charges, cleaning and any deposit. Ask which services are included, whether internet is shared, and who handles maintenance. A monthly headline price alone cannot tell you the total cost. Keep the agreed dates, inclusions and house rules together so that a change to one detail does not leave the rest of the arrangement unclear.
Settle the important details early
For an extended stay, explain any unusual needs before choosing a property: shift work, a pet, a second vehicle, stairs you cannot comfortably use, visiting family or a need for a particularly quiet study area. Ask what happens if the assignment dates change and how much notice the property needs. Confirm the agreed terms in your paperwork. This guide helps you compare the area; it does not establish a particular property’s availability, included benefits or the lodging allowance approved for your orders.
Choosing a nearby community
El Paso: match the home to the right side of post
El Paso spreads across a large border-city landscape around the Franklin Mountains. For Fort Bliss, start with the specific work or training area and identify which entrance makes sense before choosing a neighborhood. Downtown dining and cultural attractions may be appealing, but a central-city address is not automatically convenient for every part of the installation. Compare the daily drive with the home’s parking, study space and access to groceries. For a long course, those ordinary details will shape more of the stay than a weekend view.
Northeast El Paso: consider the mountain-side geography
Northeast El Paso lies east of the Franklin Mountains and north of central El Paso, alongside the Fort Bliss community. It is worth including when your daily destination is on that side of the area. The mountains make a map’s straight-line distances misleading, so compare road routes rather than circles drawn around the base. Ask about the property’s outdoor shade and cooling, as well as its indoor layout. A shaded place to sit or park may matter more than an oversized yard you rarely use.
Socorro and the Lower Valley: widen the search deliberately
Socorro is a separate community southeast of El Paso in the Lower Valley. Consider this part of the region when a particular home or household need makes it attractive, rather than assuming every El Paso County address is equally close to Fort Bliss. Check the complete freeway and local-road route to your assignment. If a household has more than one daily destination, compare both. A regional search is useful, but it should still produce a practical weekday routine.

Schools & childcare
Families with school-age children can start with the Army School Liaison Office, located at 505 Pershing Road, Room A107, which serves as the installation's point of contact for local school questions and support services. School enrollment is determined by your home address, so check with the school liaison or your local school district once you know where you'll be living.
For younger children, the Child and Youth Registration Parent Central office at 1743 Victory Avenue is the starting point for enrolling in Army child and youth programs at Fort Bliss.

Healthcare
William Beaumont Army Medical Center anchors military healthcare at Fort Bliss, a 135-bed facility with a Level III trauma center, located at 18511 Highland Medics Street.
Beyond WBAMC, soldiers and families can also access care through the Soldier Family Care Center, also known as the Hugo V. Mendoza Clinic, on SSG Sims Boulevard.
The surrounding El Paso community adds significant civilian medical capacity, with thirteen private hospitals and one public hospital supplementing the military hospital, together offering more than 2,300 beds and two designated trauma centers citywide.

Off duty
Franklin Mountains State Park
Franklin Mountains State Park brings a large desert mountain landscape into the El Paso area. Trails and viewpoints make it an appealing option for a free morning or a planned hiking day. Pick a route that matches your experience and the conditions rather than treating proximity to the city as a measure of difficulty. Carry water, check the park’s current access information and allow time to return before darkness. The park is a strong reason to reserve some daylight for exploring beyond the rental.
Hueco Tanks State Park & Historic Site
Hueco Tanks combines unusual rock formations with a landscape of important pictographs and cultural history. It is also known among climbers, but recreation takes place within a protected historic site. Check the Texas Parks and Wildlife visitor instructions before making plans; different areas can have different access arrangements. A guided or carefully planned visit is more useful than assuming it is an unrestricted roadside stop. Leave the rock art and natural features undisturbed, and build the outing around the site’s current requirements.
Chamizal National Memorial
Chamizal National Memorial in El Paso interprets the peaceful settlement of a U.S.–Mexico boundary dispute. Its setting and exhibits offer a different perspective on the city from the mountain trails and military installation. It is a useful choice for a shorter cultural outing, particularly when visitors want to understand the border region. Check the National Park Service calendar for current exhibitions or events. A visit here stays within El Paso; international travel is a separate decision with its own documentation and command considerations.

Making the most of a longer stay
Plan around distance, not just the city name
El Paso’s scale and mountain geography make the exact address especially important. A home on the wrong side of the daily route can turn simple errands into another drive. Before choosing, map work, groceries and any school or childcare stop as one sequence. For a shared home, agree on vehicles and parking before assuming travelers can commute together. Different training schedules can make a single-car arrangement difficult even when both people are assigned to Fort Bliss.
Build an indoor and outdoor routine
A longer stay benefits from both a comfortable indoor setup and a realistic plan for time outside. Ask about working air conditioning, window coverings, laundry and a proper desk rather than relying on the word furnished. For outdoor recreation, use current forecasts and park notices to choose the time and route. Keep a shorter city outing available for days when a mountain trip is not a good fit. That flexibility is more useful than trying to fill every free day with a distant destination.
