Overview
Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island exists to make Marines.

Getting there
There is no commercial airport at Parris Island; travelers fly into either Charleston International Airport (about 90 miles away) or Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport (about 45 miles away) and drive in, since no shuttle or public transit service connects either airport to the Depot.

Lodging
Parris Island does not have a dedicated Temporary Lodging Facility. The Osprey Inn, a transient barracks whose primary purpose is housing personnel on official government travel, offers rooms to recruit families on a space-available basis—availability swings widely, from as many as 70 rooms some weeks to fewer than a dozen others, so early reservations matter.
The Marine Corps Inns of the Corps location tied to this area is actually at MCAS Beaufort, not on Parris Island itself, and is open 24 hours. For visitors who can't secure Osprey Inn space, the Greater Beaufort Chamber of Commerce can help locate off-base accommodations across Port Royal, Bluffton, Hilton Head, and Beaufort proper.

Housing & nearby communities
Family housing at Parris Island is privatized under Hunt Military Communities at Tri-Command Family Housing, which also manages homes at Naval Hospital Beaufort and the larger Laurel Bay community.
There is no mobile home park at Parris Island, and mobile homes are restricted to certain areas of Beaufort County and barred within Beaufort city limits. The installation does host one of the USMC's MCCS RV Parks, an option worth considering for those with an RV rather than a mobile home.

What to look for in a furnished home
A home that fits your routine
Build your shortlist around the life you will actually lead during this assignment. A quiet bedroom, a table large enough for studying, reliable internet and a usable kitchen often matter more over several months than a long amenities list. Ask to see the workspace and cooking equipment in the listing photos. If two travelers share a home, check the number of private bedrooms, bathroom arrangements and parking spaces before comparing the price. A second bed in a living room is a different arrangement from a second bedroom.
Compare the full arrangement
Look at the complete stay, including the first and last partial months. Request a written breakdown of rent, utilities, parking, pet charges, cleaning and any deposit. Ask which services are included, whether internet is shared, and who handles maintenance. A monthly headline price alone cannot tell you the total cost. Keep the agreed dates, inclusions and house rules together so that a change to one detail does not leave the rest of the arrangement unclear.
Settle the important details early
For an extended stay, explain any unusual needs before choosing a property: shift work, a pet, a second vehicle, stairs you cannot comfortably use, visiting family or a need for a particularly quiet study area. Ask what happens if the assignment dates change and how much notice the property needs. Confirm the agreed terms in your paperwork. This guide helps you compare the area; it does not establish a particular property’s availability, included benefits or the lodging allowance approved for your orders.
Choosing a nearby community
Beaufort: a historic Lowcountry city
Beaufort is on Port Royal Island in the Sea Islands and has a preserved historic city setting. It is a useful starting point for lodging associated with Parris Island, whether the stay is an authorized assignment or a family visit. Compare the actual route to the depot and the requirements of your trip. A historic-area rental may have different parking, stairs and guest arrangements from a newer home. Ask about those details before choosing for the neighborhood’s appearance.
Port Royal: the neighboring depot community
Port Royal is a separate town in Beaufort County with a close relationship to Parris Island and the naval hospital community. Include it when comparing homes around the depot. Use the complete address and actual reporting or event destination to judge the trip. For a household, confirm laundry, parking and occupancy limits rather than assuming a property can accommodate visiting relatives. A home’s suitability for the full party matters as much as its proximity to a familiar military landmark.
Bluffton: a wider regional option
Bluffton is farther into the southern Beaufort County region and provides a different town and residential setting. It can be worth considering for a particular property or household reason, but the complete route to Parris Island should be evaluated first. Do not choose it only because the broader Lowcountry map looks compact. For a short graduation visit, compare event timing and the return trip; for a longer assignment, compare the routine you will repeat throughout the stay.

Schools & childcare
The Marine Corps School Liaison office, located at 510 Headquarters Loop in Beaufort, is a point of contact for school-related questions. It's open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Because school enrollment is determined by home address, families should confirm their specific school assignment with the relevant local district once they know where they'll be living.
For school-age child care, the Marine Corps Youth Centers on Wake Boulevard aboard Parris Island offer School Age Care, operating weekday mornings through early evening. This is the named on-base option for families needing before/after-school supervision during a training assignment here.

Healthcare
The Naval Hospital Beaufort, on Ribaut Road, is the primary military medical facility for Parris Island, positioned roughly halfway between MCRD Parris Island and MCAS Beaufort with about a 20-minute drive time from either. It's a small-to-medium hospital serving active duty members, their families, retirees, and retired family members across southeastern South Carolina and northeastern Georgia.
On base, Parris Island has its own branch medical and dental clinics, with the Dental Clinic located in Building 674 for active-duty personnel.
Specialty care at Naval Hospital Beaufort includes family medicine, pediatrics, orthopedic surgery, audiology, and behavioral health for active duty, among other services; anything beyond the hospital's capability is referred either to another military treatment facility or into the TRICARE civilian network through Humana Military.

Everyday services
The Housing Referral Office and Military Housing Office at 402 Blvd de France function as a hub for many practical needs beyond housing itself, including insurance guidance—renter's insurance is worth arranging given the area's exposure to tides, flooding, and hurricanes.
For questions about utilities in the surrounding communities, InMyArea.com is recommended as a way to compare providers by ZIP code, useful for anyone settling into off-base housing around Beaufort County.

Off duty
Hunting Island State Park
Hunting Island preserves a Sea Island landscape with maritime forest, beach and a historic lighthouse setting. It is a distinct coastal outing from Beaufort’s town center. Check current South Carolina state-park information for beach, trail and lighthouse access before planning around a specific feature. Choose a manageable visit and leave time for the return. A walk through the park and time at the shore can be enough without adding another distant destination to the same day.
Reconstruction Era National Historical Park
The Reconstruction Era National Historical Park interprets the transition from slavery to freedom and the development of citizenship in the Beaufort-area landscape. Its sites provide essential context for the region beyond the architecture of its historic homes. Use the National Park Service’s current information to choose which locations and programs to visit. The park is spread across more than one site, so plan a focused route and give the history time rather than rushing through several stops.
Port Royal’s town setting
A local visit to Port Royal provides a smaller-scale way to explore the Lowcountry during a busy stay. Choose public waterfront or town areas and check the current local events information if planning around a particular activity. A walk and a meal can be a complete outing when graduation or duty commitments limit the day. Respect residential parking and private property. Getting to know a nearby community gradually can be more rewarding than spending every free period on a regional drive.

Making the most of a longer stay
Separate recruit requirements from family arrangements
A recruit’s training accommodations, event access and liberty conditions come from the depot and unit. They are not changed by a family’s private rental booking. Establish who will actually stay in the home, then agree on the occupancy, guests and parking with the host. For an authorized long-term assignment, confirm your own lodging requirements separately. Keeping these different situations clear prevents an otherwise suitable property from creating expectations it cannot fulfill.
Let the event or duty schedule set the pace
Beaufort, Port Royal and the surrounding islands offer worthwhile places to explore, but leave room around fixed reporting or graduation times. Choose one nearby outing rather than filling every gap with another drive. For a longer stay, prioritize the home’s kitchen, laundry, cooling and quiet space. If relatives will join later, discuss that change before accepting the property. The best arrangement supports both the scheduled obligations and the ordinary household routine.

Local tips
South Carolina law requires headlights on any time visibility is restricted—rain, fog, smoke, dawn, or dusk—which matters given the area's marsh fog and frequent coastal weather.
