TDY per diem calculator

Lodging caps for every month of the fiscal year and the M&IE breakdown for your duty location — with trip totals when you add your dates.

Per diem, decoded

Every TDY authorization carries a lodging cap and an M&IE rate for the duty location. Eligible lodging is reimbursed up to your applicable authorized allowance. Costs above it require the appropriate approval or may be your responsibility. That's the entire business case for a crashpad: a fully furnished house priced at or below the locality rate, with DTS-ready receipts. Read the long version in our plain-English per diem guide.

Compare on base vs off base

Lodging on base is usually cheaper than the cap but not always available. Total both options for your dates — this tool for off base, the on-base lodging calculator for Air Force Inns — and decide before you travel.

Questions

Per diem calculator FAQ

How is per diem calculated for TDY?
Per diem has two parts. Lodging is reimbursed at actual cost up to the locality lodging rate (receipts required). M&IE — meals and incidental expenses — is a flat daily amount with no receipts, paid at 75% on the first and last travel days.
Which rate applies if my trip spans two months?
The lodging rate for each night is the rate in effect that night. Seasonal localities change rates mid-year, so a stay across a rate boundary is totalled night by night — exactly what this calculator does.
Do I get to keep the difference if lodging is cheaper than per diem?
No. Lodging is reimbursed at actual cost, not the cap — M&IE is a separate allowance subject to travel-day, meal and other applicable adjustments.
What if on-base lodging is full?
Lodging issues a non-availability (non-A) number and you're authorized commercial lodging up to the locality rate. Compare the two with the on-base lodging calculator.
Are these the same rates DTS uses?
Yes — GSA publishes the CONUS rates DTS pulls for your authorization. OCONUS and non-foreign rates (Alaska, Hawaii) are set by the DoD and State Department and aren't covered by this tool.
