Fort Gordon Crashpad — TDY lodging that feels like home

Looking for a Fort Gordon crashpad? The Army's Cyber Center of Excellence sits on the west edge of Augusta, Georgia, and its Signal and Cyber courses keep students, instructors, and cyber professionals on post for weeks to months at a time. A furnished crashpad in Augusta, Evans, Grovetown, or Martinez at or under the government lodging rate beats a chain hotel off Gordon Highway when your orders run longer than a week.

Mission

U.S. Army Cyber Center of Excellence — the Army's schoolhouse for Signal, Cyber, and electronic warfare professionals, and home of U.S. Army Cyber Command.

Host units

U.S. Army Cyber Center of Excellence (CCoE) — the Cyber School and the Signal School, plus doctrine and force modernization for cyberspace operations, networks, and EW · 15th Signal Brigade — the training brigade that owns Signal and Cyber AIT students from the day they arrive · U.S. Army Cyber Command (ARCYBER) — the Army's operational cyber headquarters, relocated to Fort Gordon from Fort Belvoir · NSA/CSS Georgia and the Army Cyber Protection Brigade — cryptologic and defensive cyber missions that keep a large uniformed and civilian intelligence workforce on post

Commute

From Grovetown it is about 10 to 15 minutes to Gate 1 via Wrightsboro Road or Jimmie Dyess Parkway; from Evans and Martinez plan on 20 to 25 minutes down Belair Road or Bobby Jones Expressway (I-520) to Gordon Highway; from downtown Augusta it is roughly 20 minutes west on Gordon Highway (US-78) to Gate 6.

Why stay in a crashpad near Fort Gordon?

Fort Gordon is a schoolhouse first. The Cyber Center of Excellence trains the Army's Signal and Cyber force from AIT through the Captains Career Course, and since U.S. Army Cyber Command and NSA Georgia both call the post home, a large share of the people passing through are here for training or joint work rather than a permanent-party assignment. The IHG Army Hotels on post fill with long-course students, and when they issue a non-availability statement you are competing with Augusta's business travelers and a construction workforce for rooms near Gordon Highway and I-520. Masters week in early April tightens the market to the point that the garrison itself warns that lodging is very scarce. A crashpad gives you a full kitchen, a quiet place to study, a fixed nightly rate with a DTS-ready receipt, and a 10 to 25 minute drive to Gate 1 or Gate 6. For PCS families waiting on a Balfour Beatty home on post or a rental in Columbia County, a furnished landing spot buys the time to choose neighborhoods and schools without rushing.

Who we host at Fort Gordon

  • Signal and Cyber AIT soldiers on courses that run months, and the lieutenants and warrant officers in Signal and Cyber BOLC and WOBC
  • Captains, senior NCOs, and warrant officers back for Signal and Cyber Captains Career Course, ALC/SLC, and functional courses at the schoolhouse
  • Instructors, cadre, and training developers on TDY to the Cyber Center of Excellence
  • Joint, Guard, Reserve, and civilian personnel supporting ARCYBER, NSA Georgia, and the Cyber Protection Brigade on rotations
  • Contractors and IT specialists working the multi-year CCoE campus construction and the cyber and signal modernization programs

Fort Gordon crashpad FAQs

Do I have to stay at the IHG Army Hotel while TDY to Fort Gordon?
Check with IHG Army Hotels first: reservations run through 1-877-711-8326 or ihgarmyhotels.com, and the check-in desk for all on-post hotels is at Griffith Hall (Holiday Inn Express, Building 250 on Chamberlain Avenue) just inside Gate 1. If they cannot house you for your dates you receive a certificate of non-availability and can lodge off post at the FY2026 Augusta / Richmond County rate, which is $125 for most of the year and $110 in June and July, with M&IE of $74. Students on long courses should confirm their unit's lodging guidance at in-processing, since some courses are billeted in barracks.
Which gate should I use when I arrive?
If you have a DoD ID, Gate 1 (McKenna Gate, Gordon Highway at Jimmie Dyess Parkway) is open 24 hours, but it is restricted to DoD ID card holders 5 to 9 a.m. on weekdays. Gate 5 on Tobacco Road is open 4:45 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily and is the natural route from the airport. Visitors and anyone needing a pass use Gate 6 off Gordon Highway (US-78), where the Visitor Control Center is open Monday through Friday 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed weekends and federal holidays, (706) 791-3071. Bring a REAL ID-compliant license or passport; unescorted visitors 18 and over get a background check.
Where do Fort Gordon families actually live?
Most families land in Columbia County: Grovetown is closest and has the newest subdivisions, Evans has the shopping and the top-rated schools, and Martinez sits between them with older, established neighborhoods. West Augusta near I-20 and Washington Road is the in-town option. On post, Balfour Beatty Communities runs the privatized housing and is building new homes at Pine Tree Terrace, but expect a wait list, especially for junior enlisted and NCO homes.
