Fort Rucker Crashpad — TDY lodging that feels like home

Looking for a Fort Rucker crashpad? The Home of Army Aviation sits in Alabama's Wiregrass between Daleville, Enterprise, and Ozark, and its flight school pushes thousands of students, instructors, and Air Force helicopter trainees through every year on orders that run months, not days. A furnished crashpad priced at or under the $110 government lodging rate beats a chain hotel off Rucker Boulevard when you're here for a whole phase of flight training.

Mission

U.S. Army Aviation Center of Excellence — the Home of Army Aviation, where every Army helicopter pilot earns their wings in Initial Entry Rotary Wing flight school.

Why stay in a crashpad near Fort Rucker?

Fort Rucker is a schoolhouse with a small city attached. The U.S. Army Aviation Center of Excellence runs Initial Entry Rotary Wing training from three separate heliports — Lowe, Shell, and Hanchey — while the 1st Aviation Brigade manages a student population that includes warrant officer candidates, new lieutenants, Warrant Officer Career College attendees, and air traffic control trainees, and the Air Force's 23d Flying Training Squadron adds roughly 176 helicopter aviators a year from the same airspace. Because most students are on post for many months, the IHG Army Hotel fills with long-stay guests and non-availability is common around class starts. The alternative is a hotel room in Enterprise, Daleville, or Dothan, and the Wiregrass hotel market is thin enough that a busy graduation week can price you out. A crashpad gives you a real kitchen, a quiet place to study for checkrides, and a fixed nightly rate with a DTS-ready receipt, usually within 10 to 20 minutes of the Daleville, Enterprise, or Ozark gates. It also makes a difference for the families who follow: Corvias housing on post runs a wait list, and a furnished landing spot buys time to find a rental in Enterprise.

Who we host at Fort Rucker

  • Warrant officer candidates and lieutenants in Initial Entry Rotary Wing flight school and the Aviation Basic Officer Leader Course, often on post for a year or more
  • Air Force helicopter pilot students and enlisted aviators training with the 23d Flying Training Squadron
  • Instructor pilots, standardization pilots, and evaluators on TDY to the 110th Aviation Brigade heliports
  • Air traffic control and aviation operations AIT students with 1-13th Aviation, plus Warrant Officer Career College and NCO Academy students
  • Contractors, simulator technicians, and staff supporting flight-line maintenance, simulators, and the Aeromedical Research Laboratory

Fort Rucker crashpad FAQs

Do I have to stay at the IHG Army Hotel while TDY to Fort Rucker?
Call the IHG Army Hotel first at (334) 598-5216 (check-in is in Building 308 on 6th Avenue) or IHG Army Hotels central reservations at 1-877-711-8326. If they can't house you for your dates you'll receive a certificate of non-availability and can lodge off post at the FY2026 standard CONUS rate — $110 lodging plus $68 M&IE — since Dale, Coffee, and Houston counties carry no special locality rate. Long-course students should also confirm their unit's lodging guidance at in-processing.
Which gate should I use when I arrive?
The Daleville Gate is open 24/7 and its Visitor Control Center is open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. seven days a week, (334) 255-0797 — use it if you need a pass. The Ozark Gate is also 24/7 with a weekday-only VCC, (334) 255-0798. The Enterprise Gate is 24/7 but issues no passes. Faulkner and Newton gates are weekday commuter gates with limited hours. CAC holders scan through; visitors need a REAL ID-compliant license or passport and can pre-register at pass.aie.army.mil 5 to 14 days before arrival.
Where do Fort Rucker families actually live?
Enterprise is the default: the largest town, the most rentals, and Enterprise City Schools, which are consistently rated among Alabama's best. Daleville is closest to the gate and cheapest. Ozark is quieter with an easy run to the Ozark Gate and Hanchey. Dothan is the regional hub with the most shopping and healthcare but a 35 to 40 minute commute. On post, Corvias runs the privatized neighborhoods and they stay near full with a wait list, so get on it early.
