Yes, when on-post lodging is full. Contact the IHG Army Hotels front desk at Fort Sam Houston (210-357-2705) first; if they cannot house you, you receive a non-availability number and can lodge commercially at the FY2026 San Antonio rate of $137 lodging (rising to $161 during the February peak) plus $74 M&IE. Which gate should I use for METC or BAMC?
The Main Walters Street gate, Harry Wurzbach East gate, SAMMC IH-35 gate, and Schofield gate are open 24 hours. BAMC sits on the northeast side of post nearest the IH-35 gate, and METC is near the Winans Road side. Other gates keep weekday-only hours, so confirm on the JBSA gate-hours page before an early report time.
Is there a hospital on post?
Yes — Brooke Army Medical Center is a full hospital with a 24-hour emergency department and the DoD's only Level I trauma center. TDY students and staff use BAMC and the METC clinics for care; for civilian urgent care, Alamo Heights and the Broadway corridor are just outside the gate.
