Camp Pendleton Crashpad — TDY lodging that feels like home

Why stay in a crashpad near Camp Pendleton?

Camp Pendleton is 125,000 acres of Fleet Marine Force training between Oceanside and San Clemente, with more than 42,000 active duty Marines and Sailors, tens of thousands of family members, and a steady flow of people passing through on orders. School of Infantry-West graduates a new class of infantry Marines every few weeks, every MCRD San Diego recruit comes north to Edson Range, and I MEF, 1st Marine Division, and 1st Marine Logistics Group run a year-round exercise and deployment cycle that pulls in staff, reservists, and contractors. The two Inns of the Corps lodges, Ward Lodge on Mainside and Pacific Views near the Main Gate, fill with official travelers and PCS families, and when they cannot house you the fallback is the Oceanside and Carlsbad hotel market, which is priced for beach tourists and spikes in summer. San Diego is 40-plus miles south on I-5 and Los Angeles is 88 miles north, so there is no cheap big-city hotel inventory within an easy drive. A crashpad gives you a full kitchen, a quiet place to work, a fixed nightly rate with a DTS-ready receipt, and a 10 to 25 minute drive to the Main Gate or San Luis Rey Gate. For PCS families waiting on a Liberty Military Housing or Hunt home on base, a furnished landing spot buys time to learn Oceanside, Vista, Carlsbad, and Fallbrook before signing a lease.

Who we host at Camp Pendleton

  • Contractors, program managers, and civilian engineers supporting ranges, vehicles, and construction across the 125,000-acre base

Camp Pendleton crashpad FAQs

Do I have to stay at the Inns of the Corps while TDY to Camp Pendleton?
Check on-base lodging first. Inns of the Corps runs two lodges on Camp Pendleton: Ward Lodge in Building 1310 on Mainside (760-725-5304) and Pacific Views Lodge in Building 202870 near the Main Gate (760-763-7805), both with front desks open 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily and a 24/7 reservation center at 1-888-409-7829. There is also a Navy Lodge; book through navy-lodge.com or 800-628-9466. If they cannot house you for your dates you receive a non-availability statement and can lodge off base at the FY2026 San Diego County rate, which is $199 a night most of the year, $237 in June and July, and $86 M&IE.
Which gate should I use when I arrive?
With a DoD ID, the Main Gate at 20250 Vandegrift Boulevard just off I-5 in Oceanside, the San Luis Rey Gate off CA-76, the Las Pulgas Gate, and the San Onofre Gate are all listed as open 24/7. Visitors without a CAC or DBIDS credential must stop at the Visitor Center, Building 20255T next to the Main Gate, which is open Monday through Friday roughly 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (760-763-8435); waits can run two to three hours, so arrive before noon and bring a REAL ID-compliant license, registration, and proof of insurance. The Del Mar Gate and Cristianitos Gate have limited weekday hours, and all hours change with force protection conditions, so confirm on the Camp Pendleton base access page before you drive down.
Where do Camp Pendleton families actually live?
Roughly three quarters of Camp Pendleton families live off base, mostly in Oceanside, Vista, Carlsbad, San Marcos, and Fallbrook, with a few in San Clemente near the north gates and Temecula or Murrieta for more house at a longer drive. On base, Liberty Military Housing manages most districts and Hunt Military Communities manages De Luz; wait lists commonly run from a few weeks to several months depending on rank and bedroom count, and you can only be on one partner's list at a time. Get on the list as soon as you have orders and expect to bridge the gap with a furnished rental.
