On-base lodging at Hanscom AFB
The Hanscom Inn (Air Force Inns), 1425 Kirtland Street, Building 1427, Hanscom AFB, MA 01731 — front desk 781-225-4444 (DSN 845-4444), open 24 hours; you can also book through the Air Force Inns central line at 888-235-6343 or dodlodging.net. It is a small inn for a base this busy, and inbound PCS families get priority for up to 30 days of temporary lodging. If it is full, get your non-availability number from the desk before booking commercially — DTS will ask for it. Pet-friendly rooms are limited, so ask when you book.
Confirm the current lodging allowance for your duty location and travel dates with the official rate lookup and your travel office. No current rate is quoted here. Alaska and Hawaii use DoD OCONUS rates. A published ceiling is not proof of reimbursement eligibility.
Where the crashpads are
Mission-ready lodging
List it in ten minutes — you set your price when a stay request comes in.
From Bedford, Lexington, Burlington, or Concord it is a 10–20 minute drive to the Sartain (main) Gate via Route 2A and Hanscom Drive, or to the 24-hour Ruiz Gate on Hartwell Avenue off Route 4/225 — figure on more during weekday rush on Route 128/I-95.
Bedford
~5–10 min
The base's home town — quiet, top-rated Bedford Public Schools (the district that takes Hanscom's high schoolers), Minuteman Bikeway trailhead, and $1M-plus homes with rentals scarce but worth the hunt for the five-minute commute.
Lexington
~10 min
Battle Green, Massachusetts' most competitive public schools, and prices to match (average home value about $1.6M); Hartwell Avenue feeds the 24-hour Ruiz Gate, so the drive is trivial.
Burlington / Woburn
~15 min
The practical choice — apartment complexes and townhomes along Route 128 and I-95, Burlington Mall, Lahey Hospital, and the best rental inventory within 15 minutes of the base.
Concord / Acton
~15–20 min
Historic Concord center, Walden Pond, commuter rail to Boston, and Acton's slightly softer prices with strong schools; the drive in on Route 2A is pretty and short.
Who's TDY here
66th Air Base Group hosting the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center's C3I&N, Battle Management, and NC3 acquisition directorates — an AFMC acquisition base with no military flying mission.
