Vance AFB Crashpad — TDY lodging that feels like home

Looking for a Vance AFB crashpad? Vance sits on the south edge of Enid, Oklahoma, where the 71st Flying Training Wing turns roughly 400 students a year into military pilots — and every one of them, plus the instructors who teach them, needs somewhere to sleep. A furnished crashpad priced inside the government rate beats an Enid hotel on space, kitchen, and receipts.

Why stay in a crashpad near Vance AFB?

Vance is one of AETC's undergraduate pilot training bases, flying about 200 T-6A Texan IIs, T-38C Talons, and T-1A Jayhawks on more than 50,000 sorties a year from three parallel runways on the south side of Enid. Classes start on a rolling schedule, so a steady stream of students, IPs, and staff arrive every month, and the on-base Cherokee Lodge is small enough that non-availability letters are routine. Enid has a handful of chain hotels along US-81 and Garriott Road, but they fill fast during class starts, graduations, and any wing-level inspection. A crashpad gives you a real kitchen, a quiet room to study emergency procedures, a washer and dryer, and a monthly receipt that drops straight into DTS. Most of our guests are 10 to 15 minutes from the main gate.

Vance AFB crashpad FAQs

Is there on-base lodging at Vance AFB?
Yes. The Cherokee Lodge (Air Force Inns) is at 426 Goad St., Bldg. 714, phone (580) 213-7358. Call first; if it's full you'll get a non-availability number and can lodge commercially at the FY2026 standard CONUS rate for Enid, $110 lodging plus $68 M&IE.
How far is Vance from the nearest commercial airport?
Will Rogers World Airport (OKC) in Oklahoma City is about 90 miles and roughly an hour and a half by car, mostly on I-35 and US-412 or US-81. Wichita (ICT) is about two hours north. Enid's Woodring airport has no airline service, so plan on a rental car.
Where do Vance families usually live?
On base in Hunt Military Communities' 200-plus homes across three neighborhoods, or off base in west and north Enid near Garland Road and Oakwood Mall, downtown's historic Waverly and Kenwood districts, or in Waukomis just south of the base. Almost everything in Enid is within 15 minutes of the gate.
