On-base lodging at Altus AFB
The Red River Inn (Air Force Inns), Building 82 at 307 B Avenue, is the 24-hour arrival point; call 580-481-7356 (DSN 866-7356) for reservations. The front desk is staffed 24/7. Room types include visiting quarters, 24 family-friendly suites with kitchenettes, distinguished visitor quarters, and 30 TLF units for PCS families on a 15-day limit, and pet-friendly rooms carry an extra $10 per stay. Lodging cannot guarantee a room on arrival; if you are turned away, get your non-availability number before you book off base. Students should check whether their course carries a 97th AMW lodging requirement memo.
Confirm the current lodging allowance for your duty location and travel dates with the official rate lookup and your travel office. No current rate is quoted here. Alaska and Hawaii use DoD OCONUS rates. A published ceiling is not proof of reimbursement eligibility.

The closest thing Altus has to a newer subdivision: brick ranches from the 1990s-2010s, the golf course, and the quickest shot up US-283 to Falcon Road; most rentals here go to instructors and officers and lease fast.
Central and East Altus (near Altus High School)

Older 1950s-70s homes on wide streets, walkable to Altus High, the hospital on East Pecan, and the Main Street restaurants; the cheapest rents in town and the shortest drive to the South Gate.
Base housing (Balfour Beatty, 8 neighborhoods)

530 homes with L. Mendel Rivers Elementary in the neighborhood and everything a five-minute walk away; two- and three-bedroom units turn quickly, four-bedrooms carry a waitlist, so get on the list from your losing base.
Blair
~20 min
A town of 800 about 14 miles northeast with its own small K-12 district and acreage lots at farm-country prices; families who want horses, quiet, and the Jasmine Gate route pick Blair.
